Sick day

Published by petula under Tips, children, parenting Edit This

Sometimes when you have children you can’t resist saying, “If it isn’t one thing it’s another.” That’s how I felt today.

I started off the week with my daily to do list and had in my head exactly what I needed to accomplish. The list went out the window before half the week had passed: My youngest daughter was home sick today.

It was nothing serious, but her childcare provider doesn’t like the children to come when they have runny noses and that’s understandable. But having little people around can really throw you off schedule.

If this happens with my oldest, who’s 17, I can often get her situated and still get my work done. When my 5-year-old son is home I can settle him on the couch, give him his meds and pop in a movie. That gives me at least 90 minutes and sometimes more if he falls asleep. When the two youngest girls (1 and 4) are home sick then it gets a little more complicated.

What I need to do is come up with a “home sick” box for each of them. My son’s could include a new movie and special treat or toy. And, come to think of it, my teenager would probably like to watch something too so a DVD set or Disney movie is just the ticket for her and her favorite teen magazine.

I’m at a loss for the other girls: Maybe a new coloring book, music CD or some other type of drawing implement for my budding artist the 4 year old. What would you suggest for the baby? She isn’t really interested in much and she likes to wander around and play independently when she’s alone or follow me around. Hmmm??? Any suggestions?
